The 1918 Chevy Model 490 was considered a light-duty truck with a half-ton rating, which competed with Ford’s first truck, the 1917 Ford Model TT. The 1918 Series 490 was sold as a chassis only, leaving the customer having to install the truck cab and body. Also sold in 1918 was the Chevrolet Model T, a one-ton rated truck. Both the Series 490 and Model T truck were produced until 1922. For these trucks, Chevrolet only produced the chassis and cowl.The first factory-built Chevrolet truck wasn’t produced until 1931.
